13 Oct '08. In pursuit of inspiring yellow views... Carne Mountain rises to over 7000 ft in the Mount Baker National Forest, about 35 miles north of Leavenworth, WA. We had the perfect day hike: crisp & dry air, plenty of sunshine, sweetly yellow larch trees standing out sharply against the backdrop of jagged peaks and fresh snowfall. It was a long drive from Seattle, but we didn't leave very early, and it was totally worthwhile. Oh, and we had a very lively and lovely companion--Matt's dog.
